Michelle Sollicito has been a resident of Cobb County for 12 years. She has two children, Benjamin and Julia, who attend EastValley school. She is probably most famous for Snowedoutatlanta, her Facebook group that was lauded as the "fastest growing Facebook group in history" as it helped thousands stuck in the snowstorm in Jan 2014. For that work, she received a Point of Light award from George HW Bush, and an American Marketing Award (AMY) as well as a TAG Social Savvy Award and other awards.
Since then Michelle has worked with FEMA, DHS (Marcie Roth), GEMA, Georgia Dept of Health, local Emergency Management Agencies such as Cobb EMA, Dekalb EMA etc., Voluntary Organizations (VOADs) such as the American Red Cross, Must Ministries, Simple Needs Georgia, Cobb Moms Helping Cobb, EMDL (Laura George) etc. as well as The Weather Channel, NextDoor.com and other corporations to try to improve the Emergency Response in Georgia and Cobb County. She has also become CERT certified and is a certified Storm Spotter. She wrote and published a book about Snowedoutatlanta and made a proposal to Governor Deal of how to improve the State's response to disasters in the future.(see http://snowedoutatlanta.spruz.com)
Michelle has worked with Cobb County schools in a number of ways, especially by campaigning to get more funds for schools - see her articles on Cobb school funding

Michelle is a self-employed businesswoman with her own consultancy who has worked for clients like Coca Cola (Global), Earthlink and Yahoo! over the years. She usually acts as a technical architect helping companies to determine how to best fit different pieces of software together to achieve business objectives. You can see Michelle's business site here http://www.iteratit.com She understands what it is like to live and work in Cobb as a business owner also. Michelle has also worked for some of the big companies that call Cobb home (or HQ) such as GPC/Napa, so she understands some of the issues faced by some of the big corporations in our community.
Michelle has run Marietta Moms, a moms group that supports moms in their hard times as well as providing a social outlet for moms (esp single moms) and their kids, providing regulars with a meal and playdate every Wednesday. She has run the group for 8 years, and at one time it had 1000 members, but currently has around 500 members, with her online facebook group Anything Goes Cobb Mos Exchange having around 1000 members currently. It is estimated that 3000+ moms in the area have at one time been a member of her group either in the "real world" or online via one of her facebook groups (Marietta moms https://www.facebook.com/MariettaMoms or Anything Goes Cobb Moms Exchange group https://www.facebook.com/groups/ACobbMomsExchange/)
Michelle has worked at Cobb County schools as a volunteer in various capacities, particularly as an unofficial mentor to two boys who had learning difficulties, who she read with every morning for a year. She started a facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/MariettaNonProfit/) that became a kind of bridge between many non-profits in the area, and as a result, has worked with charities such as Simple Needs Georgia, Cobb Moms Helping Cobb, Must Ministries, Instant Karma and others.
Michelle is a true member of our community, having championed many campaigns in an attempt to improve the community. She has run a campaign to encourage DFCS to become more effective and efficient in handling legitimate claims see https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cobb-DFCS-Complaints
Her social injustice campaign #thishastostop has highlighted many injustices that could have been avoided and has been taken up by many others now too https://www.facebook.com/search/str/%23thishastostop/keywords_top
In particular Michelle is against racial injustice such as that exhibited in Ferguson and Baltimore and has campaigned hard to end such injustices.
